Tualatin High Jersey Retirement

by manager

This is from Friday nights’ halftime ceremony at Tualatin’s first home game - It was great. It’s such an honor for him.

He would be thrilled that his buddies were there for him.

5K Run/Walk, Pumpkin Regatta

by claudia

A scholarship fund has been created in Matt's memory by some teachers at Tualatin High School. The Tualatin Chamber of Commerce is organizing a new 5K run/walk in conjunction with the West Coast Giant Pumpkin Regatta and has decided to make the 5K a fund raiser to benefit the scholarship fund. The Pumpkin Regatta is an annual event held the last Saturday in October where people race in giant, hollowed out pumpkins across the Lake of the Commons in down town Tualatin. The run/walk will be called the Regatta Run and begins in the Commons at 8:30 am and the Pumpkin Regatta races will begin at 10:00 am.
Attached is the registration form with more information.

We know not everyone can make it out here for this event but wanted to let you know about it.

Retirement Ceremony, Matt's High School Football Jersey

by claudia

I thought I would share the information regarding the ceremony to retire Matt's football jersey. We had been waiting to hear back form the football coach to make sure the event was definitely going to happen on Oct. 2nd. Here are the details:

Friday, Oct. 2 at Tualatin High School
Game begins at 7:00 pm
Tualatin vs. Grants Pass

The ceremony will take place during halftime. The Tualatin coach and players will stay on the field for a few extra minutes and they will also invite any of Matt's former teammates onto the field. Matt's #70 jersey will be presented and there will also be a picture and plaque hung in the hall at the school.

Another event that is still in the planning stage is a 5 K run/walk that will help fund the Cpl. Matthew Lembke Scholarship fund. The City of Tualatin has an event called the West Coast Giant Pumpkin Regatta which is held annually on the last Saturday in October. Giant pumpkins are hallowed out and used as boats by racers who paddle across the Lake of the Commons in downtown Tualatin. Who knew giant pumpkins could float? This year's regatta is on Saturday, Oct. 31. The run/walk is going to be called the Regatta Run and is scheduled to begin at 8:30 am and the pumpkin races will follow beginning at 10:00 am.

Many people are working hard to put these events together and we are very pleased that they want to honor Matt this way. Let me know if you need any other information and feel free to edit for space if you decide to put it on the web site.

Thank you,
