Aloha!

by claudia

We arrived in Honolulu Saturday afternoon. Several of Matt's friends had asked if we needed a ride from the airport and we told them it wasn't necessary since we were renting a car. So we were quite surpised when four handsome Marines from the Scout Sniper Platoon greated us at the baggage claim with lais. Last night we went out to dinner with most of the platoon. There were about 24 of them plus a couple of them brought their wives. It was great to meet these guys but a bit overwhelming, too. Tonight we are getting together with some of the guys from Echo Company. These are they guys that Matt was with during his first 2 delployments to Iraq.

Tomorrow is the memorial service. We heard there are 10 families here but haven't met any of the others yet. We'll let you know how that goes.

Pumpkin Regatta, Matthew R. Lembke 5k Race

by dale

Here's some pix from the pumpkin Regatta yesterday. Matt's 5k race was earlier in the morning - it drizzled a little, but, not bad - we had a great time.

Take care,

Dale

The Oregon Department of Veterans Affairs sent us a letter inviting our family and friends to a private unveiling of the Afghan-Iraqi Freedom Memorial. Matt's name along with 4 others have been added since Memorial Day 2009. This ceremony takes place on Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 1:00 at 700 Summer Street NE in Salem. The following day, Wednesday, Nov. 11 at 3:00, there will be a public Veterans Day ceremony honoring all veterans who have served their country.

Knights of Columbus Ceremonial Induction

by claudia

Just thought we'd let everyone know that the local K of C is going to honor Matt next Sunday at Mass. I'm not sure if Matt would have ever considered joining the K of C but I do remember he loved going to "Grampa's Club" where he could have his fill of pop and play pool for a dime a game.

Dear Dale and Claudia,

The ceremonial induction of Matthew into the Knights of Columbus will be this coming Sunday, November 1st, at the 11am Mass at Resurrection Catholic Parish. We will be assembling the honor guard about 10am. Many Knights will be in attendance from National to State officers, to local Knights. I would suggest arriving by 10:30am as parking will surely fill early. I will have a 'reserved' space for your car at the upper parking lot, near the church office . We will also reserve the first two pews in the church for your family and guests.

Dale, we (the Knights) are honored to induct your son into our order. We can think of no greater honor we can bestow upon a brother Catholic man, than to ceremoniously induct him at the highest degree of our order. With God at our sides, we will always be here for you and your family.
Fraternally Yours,

Stephen F. Call, Past Grand Knight/Trustee2
Knights of Columbus, Council 13851
Resurrection Catholic Parish
